Summary
To get a 3D printing quote in India you must send the vendor your model file, the quantity, the material, the finish, any sizes that must be exact your pin code and your deadline. You should also say whether you need a GST invoice or an NDA. Clear details give you an firmer price.
Use a STEP file and an STL file together. The STL file shows what will print. The STEP file lets the vendor fix the design. State your units because an STL file carries no units. A mix up can shrink a part twenty‑five times.
Clean up mesh errors first. Vendors may decline files or charge extra to repair them.
An instant quote is an estimate, and one vendor says it lands within ±25% of the final price. An engineer reviewed quote is firmer, and complex parts need it.
Infill, layer height, finish, tolerance and quantity all move the price. Full infill adds about 35%, and larger batches earn discounts of 5 to 20%.
Before you accept, check whether GST is included, what the minimum order is, what starts the lead time, and how long the quote stays valid.
The article also gives you email and WhatsApp request templates, a red flag list, and a short Voxelcore section that invites readers to send their file for engineer review.
Key takeaways
- Send a real 3D file, not a screenshot. A STEP file plus an STL file is the safest pair.
- Always state your unit. An STL file carries no units, so millimetres and inches can get mixed up.
- An instant quote is an estimate. A quote from an engineer who reviews your file is firmer.
- Quantity, infill, layer height, finish and tolerance move the price more than most people expect.
- Ask what starts the lead time, whether GST is included, and how long the quote stays valid.
Last reviewed: 23 October 2026. Prices and lead times come from vendor pages read in October 2026.
You upload your file, wait a few hours, and the price lands at twice what you expected. Or the shop writes back with five questions and no number. Neither one is bad luck. A 3D printing quote is only as good as the details you send with it.
This guide shows you what to send, which file format to use, what pushes the price up or down, and how to read the quote when it arrives. You also get two copy and paste request templates you can use today.
The Short Answer: How to Get a 3D Printing Quote in India
If you want a 3D printing quote, in India you should send the vendor your model file, whether it is an STL, a STEP or both. Also give the vendor the quantity, the material or the job that the part must perform the finish you desire any sizes that must be exact your pin code and your deadline. Tell the vendor if you need a GST invoice. Clear details give you an firmer price.
What to Send: The Eight Item Checklist
A vendor can only price what they can see. These eight items get you a clean quote the first time.
| What to send | What to write | Why it matters |
| Model file | One current file, with the revision in the name (for example bracket_revB.step) | Old exports lead to wrong prices and wrong parts |
| Quantity | The exact count, and whether you need batches | Price per part drops as numbers rise |
| Material | The material name, or the job the part must do (outdoor, heat, flex) | Material changes cost, strength and the machine used |
| Process | FDM, SLA, SLS, MJF, or “please advise” | Each process has its own rate |
| Finish and colour | Raw, sanded, painted or smoothed, plus colour | Finishing is hand labour, and labour costs by the hour |
| Critical sizes | Only the sizes that must be exact, with tolerance, and the parts they fit | Tight tolerance costs more, so mark only what matters |
| Deadline and pin code | The date you need it and the delivery location | Sets shipping cost and whether you need rush service |
| Invoice and privacy | GST invoice details, and whether you need an NDA | Stops delays after you approve |
If you have not decided something, say so. Write “material open, please recommend” instead of guessing. A wrong guess makes the vendor price the wrong job. GoodPrints3D gives the same advice.
Which File Format Should You Send?

Send a STEP file together with an STL file whenever you can. The STL shows the vendor exactly what will print, and the STEP lets them edit the design if something needs fixing.
STL, STEP, 3MF and OBJ: What Each One Does
| Format | Best for | Watch out for |
| STL | Fast pricing of a final shape | No units, no editable features, possible mesh errors |
| STEP | Parts that may need edits, fit checks or machining | May not match the mesh you plan to print |
| 3MF | Jobs that need colour or more print detail than STL | Not every vendor accepts it |
| OBJ | Models from scans or artwork | Check that the vendor accepts it |
Vendors do not agree on what they accept. Zbotic takes STL, OBJ, 3MF, STEP and AMF up to 100 MB. IAMRapid puts STL first. Makenica lists STEP, STL, OBJ and IGES. One global vendor’s instant tool takes STL only, and sends everything else to a manual quote. Check the upload page before you export.
Why Sending Both Works Best
The STL tells the vendor what you mean to print. The STEP tells them what the design is. If the two files ever differ, write one line saying which file governs. GoodPrints3D calls this a simple fix for most quote mix ups.
The Unit Trap That Shrinks Parts 25 Times
An STL file stores numbers, not units. If you design in inches and the vendor’s software reads millimetres, the part comes out about 25.4 times too small. This explainer covers the cause. Check your export settings, measure one known length in your slicer, and write “all dimensions in millimetres” in your request.
File Errors That Raise Your Quote
Hubs names four common problems:
- Holes in the mesh, so the model is not watertight.
- Overlapping faces, often from bodies you forgot to merge.
- Edges shared by too many faces, which confuse the slicer.
- An over refined mesh, which makes a huge file with no extra detail.
Hubs also warns that providers may decline files with big errors or raise the price to cover repair. Merge your bodies in CAD, run a repair in your slicer, and keep the file size sensible. Upload limits are real: the global instant tool above caps each file at 30 MB.
Instant Quote or Engineer Reviewed Quote?
An instant quote is an automatic estimate from software. A reviewed quote comes from an engineer who checks your design. Use instant for simple parts and a reviewed quote for anything unusual.
| Choose an instant quote when | Choose a reviewed quote when |
| The part is a prototype or a small batch | The part has tight tolerances or special finishes |
| You use a standard material and process | You need a material the tool does not list |
| Speed matters most | The file is an assembly or has hollow sections |
| You want a price in minutes | You want engineering advice before you commit |
Geomiq uses this split and says its engineers usually reply the same day. Xometry sends a part to manual quoting when its software cannot analyse the design, when the part has floating pieces or confined hollows, and when you ask for custom features, materials or finishes. Processes such as vacuum casting and moulding also need a manual quote, because someone has to plan the tooling. Voxelcore offers both vacuum casting and low volume injection moulding on that basis.
Upload tools also fail sometimes. A 2025 roundup reported upload errors and an inactive upload page at some Indian bureaus. If a tool breaks, send the same details through a form or WhatsApp.
For a reviewed quote, add a 2D drawing in PDF, DWG or DXF when any size is critical. FacFox asks for exactly that, along with your process and material.
What Changes the Price After You Hit Send
Your price moves with material, machine time, finishing, quantity and file quality. For the full rupee breakdown, read the Voxelcore 3D printing cost guide. This table shows how each request detail changes the number.
| Detail you control | What happens to the price |
| Infill of 100% instead of 20% | About 35% more |
| Layer height of 0.1 mm instead of 0.2 mm | 1.5 to 1.7 times the cost and about twice the print time |
| Painting | About 17% more at one global vendor |
| Multicolour printing | Costs more, and works on FDM only |
| Rush delivery | Adds a charge, so ask for the amount |
| Tolerance | Listed as a price input by Elecrow |
| No CAD file | Design work runs ₹500 to ₹3,000 per design hour |
| Messy file | May be declined or priced higher for repair |
The infill, layer height and painting figures come from Printer Hub, which uses global examples and not live quotes. The colour and rush points come from Zbotic. The design rate comes from a Zbotic business guide.
Why Your Estimate and Final Price Can Differ
Most buyers meet three prices, not one:
- The instant estimate. Software guesses from volume and default settings. Zbotic says its estimate usually lands within ±25% of the exact price.
- The reviewed quote. An engineer adjusts for supports, orientation, finish and quantity.
- The final invoice. It changes only if you change the file, quantity or finish after approval.
Here is what that ±25% margin looks like. Say a vendor’s estimate is ₹1,298, the service price from the second example in our cost guide.
| Scenario | Price |
| Low end of the band | Roughly ₹975 |
| Estimate | ₹1,298 |
| High end of the band | Roughly ₹1,620 |
This illustration is not a quote. A finer layer height, a full infill request and an upgraded finish all push the project toward the end. To stay near the end lock specifications, before asking send a clean file and do not change the file after the quote.
Tolerance and Finish: Say It Before They Quote
Tell the vendor which sizes must be exact, because tolerance depends on the process. These figures come from one vendor’s published guide, JLC3DP.
| Process | Tolerance up to 100 mm | Minimum wall for small parts |
| SLA resin | ±0.2 mm | 0.5 mm |
| SLS and MJF nylon | ±0.3 mm | 1.0 mm |
| FDM | ±0.3 mm | 1.6 mm for a 50 by 50 mm part |
Walls must get thicker as parts get bigger. These tolerances also assume no warping, painting or oil coating. Ask your own vendor for its numbers before you design to a tight fit.
Two quick rules keep your price down:
- Mark only what matters. Pick the two or three sizes that count, such as screw holes and surfaces that touch another part. Leave everything else at standard tolerance.
- Add escape holes. If you hollow a resin or nylon part, JLC3DP asks for holes of at least 2.5 mm so trapped resin or powder can drain.
How Batch Size Moves the Price
More parts mean a lower price per part. Zbotic publishes its breaks, and this table applies them to the ₹1,298 part from our illustration.
| Quantity | Zbotic discount | Illustrated price per part |
| 1 | None | ₹1,298 |
| 5 | 5% | ₹1,233 |
| 10 | 10% | ₹1,168 |
| 25 | 15% | ₹1,103 |
| 50 | 20% | ₹1,038 |
Other vendors use different breaks. IAMRapid’s pricing page shows an example where a single part costs ₹810.7 and each part in a 500 unit order costs ₹570, about 30% less. Its text file sends orders above 1,000 units to a sales team for a custom quote.
Ask for two quantities in the same request, such as 10 and 50. You will see the price curve for free.
Quote Terms to Read Before You Say Yes
Two vendors can quote the same number and mean different things. Check these terms before you approve.
| Term | Question to ask | What vendors say |
| Minimum order | Is there a minimum order value? | A roundup lists ₹150 for one bureau and ₹1,000 for resin and nylon at another. Zbotic’s guide says most services set ₹200 to ₹500. IAMRapid and Makenica say none |
| GST | Is GST included or extra? | Zbotic shows 18% as a line and includes it. Makenica says its prices include GST |
| Lead time | What starts the clock: payment, file approval or finishing? | Most pages do not say, so ask |
| Quote validity | How long does this price hold? | Rarely stated, so ask |
| File changes | What happens if I change the file after you quote? | Expect a new quote, so ask how it works |
| Inspection | Do I get a dimensional report? | IAMRapid lists a standard inspection report |
For context, one Indian bureau publishes these production times: FDM 2 to 3 days, SLA 2 to 4 days, SLS and MJF 3 to 5 days, and metal 5 to 10 days. It lists delivery at 48 to 72 hours in Bangalore and 3 to 7 business days elsewhere. These are the vendor’s own claims, so confirm them in your quote. The Voxelcore cost guide explains GST on 3D printing in full.
NDA and Design Privacy Before You Upload

Ask for an NDA before you send a confidential design. These habits protect you:
- Put the NDA request in your first message.
- Share files through a private link, not a public folder.
- Send only what the vendor needs to quote.
- Ask who can open the file inside the company.
IAMRapid says it offers an NDA on request and keeps files in an encrypted database. Voxelcore signs NDAs on request too.
What If You Have No CAD File?
You can still get a quote. Pick the route that fits what you have:
- A sketch. Photograph it with the main dimensions written on it.
- A sample or broken part. 3D scanning can capture it and save design hours.
- Reference photos. Place a ruler beside the part and shoot from three sides.
- A paid design. Budget ₹500 to ₹3,000 per design hour.
Voxelcore’s design team can model a part from a sketch, sample or scan before it quotes. Whatever route you pick, list the two or three sizes that matter most.

Quote Red Flags to Watch For
- The material says only “resin” or “plastic” with no name.
- The quote never mentions GST, either way.
- There is no lead time, or no word on what starts it.
- The vendor refuses an NDA for a confidential part.
- You get a firm price for a complex part and nobody asked a question.
- You asked for finishing or inspection and the quote ignores both.
- The vendor cannot tell you what happens if you change the file.
One red flag is a reason to ask. Three is a reason to compare another vendor.
Four Questions to Ask When the Quote Feels High
- Which setting drives the price: material, machine time or finish?
- Can you lower infill or supports without hurting how the part works?
- What does the price look like with a looser tolerance or a raw finish?
- What is the price at a different quantity?
A good vendor answers these in one reply. The answers often cut the price without hurting the part.
How Voxelcore Reviews Your File
Voxelcore is an Indian 3D printing service with an engineer behind every enquiry. That engineer checks the same things this guide covers: wall thickness, tolerance, orientation and finish. A free design for manufacture review comes with your quote. Repeat orders reuse your saved print profile, material and finishing spec, so a second batch matches the first. Large FDM parts can print up to 800 by 500 by 500 mm.
If your part needs more than printing, Voxelcore also offers CNC machining, vacuum casting, low volume manufacturing and injection moulding. You can read more about Voxelcore or in this simple guide to what Voxelcore does.

Frequently Asked Questions About 3D Printing Quotes
How Do I Get a 3D Printing Quote in India?
Send your 3D file, the quantity, the material, the finish, any critical sizes, your pin code and your deadline through a vendor’s upload tool, form, email or WhatsApp. Add your GST invoice details and say if you need an NDA.
What File Format Do I Need for a 3D Printing Quote?
STL works almost everywhere, and STEP works well when the design may need edits. Sending both is usually best. Some vendors also take OBJ, 3MF, IGES or AMF, so check the upload page first.
Can I Get a Quote With Only an STL File?
Yes. An STL is enough for a price on a final shape. Add your units, quantity, material and finish in writing, because the file carries none of that information.
How Long Does a 3D Printing Quote Take?
Instant tools return a price in about a minute. Reviewed quotes take hours. Zbotic emails quotes within a few hours, and Voxelcore engineers usually reply within four working hours.
Is an Instant Quote the Final Price?
No. Zbotic says its instant estimate usually lands within ±25% of the exact price. A reviewed quote is firmer, and your final invoice changes only if you change the file, quantity or finish.
Does a 3D Printing Quote Include GST?
It depends on the vendor. Some include 18% GST in the price, and others add it at the end. Ask for the price with and without GST, and request a GST invoice if you need input tax credit.
Why Did My Quote Change After I Uploaded the File?
The vendor probably found something the estimate missed: a mesh error, supports, a thin wall, a finer layer height or a finish you added. Ask which detail changed the price, then decide whether to adjust the design.
Do I Need an NDA Before Sending My Design?
If the design is confidential, yes. Ask for the NDA in your first message and wait for the signed copy before you send detailed files. Voxelcore signs NDAs on request.
What Is the Minimum Order for a 3D Printing Quote?
It varies. A roundup lists ₹150 at one bureau and ₹1,000 for resin and nylon at another. Zbotic says most services set ₹200 to ₹500, while IAMRapid and Makenica say none. Ask before you upload.
Can I Get a Quote Without a CAD File?
Yes. Send a dimensioned sketch, clear photos with a ruler, or a physical sample. The vendor can model or scan the part before quoting, and design work usually costs ₹500 to ₹3,000 per design hour.
The Bottom Line: Send More, Get a Better Quote
A good quote starts with a good request. Send a STEP and STL pair, state your units, list the eight items, and mark only the sizes that matter. Ask what starts the lead time, whether GST is in the price, and what happens if the file changes. Do that, and the number you receive will be one you can trust. When you are ready, send your file to Voxelcore and let an engineer check it.
Sources and Method
Prices, lead times and policies come from vendor pages and guides read in October 2026. They include IAMRapid’s instant quotation page and text file, Zbotic’s order page and services guide, Makenica, and the All3DP India roundup. Global guidance comes from Hubs, Xometry, Geomiq, FacFox, JLC3DP, Printer Hub and GoodPrints3D. Vendor claims are the vendors’ own. The ₹1,298 price band and the quantity table are illustrations, not quotes.
